The Robinson Helicopter Company: The Legacy of A Family Owned Business

Robinson Helicopter

The Robinson Company started out humbly with a very simple and straightforward mission. Frank Robinson, who founded the Robinson Helicopter Company in the year 1973, was interested in designing incredible helicopters that were not only innovative and luxurious but also cost effective. This mission began with the creation of the Robinson Company’s R22 Helicopter. Eventually the company began experimenting with their innovative design as the cost to manufacture helicopters became more manageable. This meant that the Robinson Helicopter Company experimented with things such as different piston structures as well as different sorts of engines such as stronger turbine engines for models such as their newest R66 helicopters. These sort of innovations in design eventually led the Robinson Company to become a leader in the distribution of smaller air-crafts such as helicopters.

Another major feature of the company is the fact that it is kept near and dear to the Robinson family’s heart and is family owned with the current president of the company being Kurt Robinson. Even though the company is kept close to the family, the company is constantly looking for new ways to innovate in the industry. These innovations can be improvements on safety features or technological advancements such as auto piloting capabilities. Nowadays, the company’s top selling helicopters are their R44 and R66 models which come in a variety of configurations for news work, police work or flight training/instruction.

Despite the company’s monumental success, the company ran into a brief decline of sales in 2019. The president was rightfully stumped by what caused their decline in sales; however, the Robinson =Company quickly saw an upturn in sales near the start of 2020 and despite their dip in 2019 has continued great sales throughout the following years. Sales have been so proficient in fact that the company is currently celebrating the delivery of their 13,000th helicopter sold worldwide. Kurt Robinson alongside the Robinson Helicopter Company show no signs of slowing down and are eager to continue their innovations within the helicopter and aviation industry.
